The Hallway With No Ceiling

I was walking down a hallway I had walked down every day for years. The carpet was the same. The light switches were the same. But when I looked up, there was no ceiling — only a soft, dark distance, like the underside of a very old lake.

Nobody else seemed to notice. A man in a grey suit passed me carrying a lamp that wasn't plugged into anything. It was lit.

"You're early," he said. I checked my watch. It had no hands.

I think the dream was about work. I think most of them are.
